About us

Are you ready to lead a team of data management experts with a passion for developing and implementing a cutting-edge research data management system for a new large-scale research center? Join our dynamic and forward-thinking team as Head of Data Management (m/f/d). You will play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating the efforts of a skilled team to plan, set up, and test a new research data management system, aimed to effectively capture, analyze and communicate the CTC’s research results, fostering collaboration across interdisciplinary teams and ensuring seamless, sustainable data handling and utilization. The CTC scientific team will be located approx. 30 min from Leipzig and Halle (Saale) in Leuna.

Your tasks and qualifications

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of data management experts, including data analysts, database administrators, and IT specialists.
  • Collaborate closely with other team leads and researchers to develop and refine a cohesive interdisciplinary research data management strategy, aligning it with the CTC's thematic areas: Automation & Standardization, AI & Chemistry, Recycling, Renewable Feedstocks and Economy-Society-Acceptance Metrics.
  • Drive the planning, implementation, and testing of innovative research data management approaches, ensuring efficient knowledge transfer, technology adoption, and infrastructure development.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of data management policies, standards, and best practices to ensure high-quality, secure, and compliant data management practices across the organization.
  • Foster collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, IT departments, and funding agencies, to create a vibrant ecosystem for data-driven research and overall institutional development.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, promoting their professional growth and development in the rapidly evolving field of data management.

Your Profile

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in a relevant scientific, engineering, or technical field. Additional qualifications in data management, computer science, or project management are advantageous.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing interdisciplinary teams in data management or IT-related projects in a research, industry, or innovation-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning, setting up, and testing research data management systems, including data storage solutions, data governance frameworks, and data analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with data management best practices, data privacy regulations, and industry standards (e.g., FAIR principles) in the context of research data.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, database management, and data visualization tools. Experience with graph database management is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills to effectively work with researchers, IT professionals, and external partners.
  • Ability to balance a strategic vision for data management with attention to detail in managing complex data workflows and protocols.
