About us

The Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) aims to reimagine the chemical industry as sustainable and resilient. Divided into 5 interconnected thematic areas; Automation & Standardization, Data-driven Chemistry, Recycling, Renewable Feedstocks, and Societal-Environmental-Economic Metrics (SEEM); the CTC has identified strong pillars to guide its scientific efforts towards the transformation of chemistry.

The CTC Science Team is currently planning multiple pilot projects and looking for ambitious people taking the lead.

Are you a seasoned chemist or data scientist with an interest in shaping the chemical industry’s future by combining chemistry, data science and machine learning? Join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in spearheading the development of a novel research institute by leading one of the first pilot projects at the CTC. As a Research Scientist (m/f/d) – Pilot Project Rare Earth Database, you will establish your own research on rare earth element solvent extraction with a focus on data mining and analytics.

As part of CTC’s Science team, you’ll be located in Leuna in the greater Leipzig/Halle area

Your tasks and qualifications

  • Set Up a predictive database on Rare Earth Element (REE) Solvent Extraction (SX), combining data from literature, molecular dynamics simulations and machine learning.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews and analyses of current research trends, emerging technologies, and scientific literature on REE SX with a focus on Data Science, MD Simulations, Machine Learning and related fields.
  • Collaborate with CTC’s Science and IT Teams to plan and set up your research as well as to plan further steps in setting up the CTC and its infrastructure.
  • Represent your research and the CTC by contributions to the scientific community, such as peer-reviewed publications and contributions to conferences.

Your profile

  • Chemist (at least a Master’s degree, ideally PhD) with a demonstrated interest in Computer Science or Computer Scientist with a profound knowledge of chemistry.
  • Experience in MD simulations.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively lead and manage a pilot research project that will set the corner stone of your research at the CTC.
  • Highly motivated and self-organized, thriving in a dynamic environment capable of handling multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to perform your research at what will be the largest research center for chemical research in Europe.
  • Benefit from a large network: Meet and work with top experts from academia and industry.
  • Competitive compensation according to TVöD-Bund up to E13 depending on the candidate’s qualifications.
  • Partial compensation of Job Commute Ticket.
  • Comprehensive social benefits, including 30 days of vacation per year, annual special payment, and additional pension scheme (VBL).
