About us

Join our team at the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) as a Data Engineer (m/f/d) and play a crucial role in crafting and maintaining our data infrastructure. As part of the Data Management Team, you will spearhead the design, implementation, and upkeep of our data architecture to ensure seamless processing, storage, and analysis of research data. The CTC scientific team is located approximately 30 minutes from Leipzig and Halle (Saale) in Leuna.

Your tasks and qualifications

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to formulating the CTC's data architecture strategy.
  • Develop efficient, scalable data storage and processing systems, integrating cloud and on-premise platforms.
  • Design and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes for ingesting and transforming diverse research data.
  • Establish data standards and governance policies to ensure compliance and data FAIRness.
  • Collaborate with scientists and IT groups to tailor solutions to data requirements.
  • Continuously optimize data processes and infrastructure in line with emerging technologies and best practices.

Your profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Proven experience in data engineering, with expertise in data architecture and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with data modeling, warehousing concepts, and governance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or C++.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark), and containerization.
  • Familiar with data governance frameworks, data security standards and data handling best practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for efficient data management
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
